OTTER FERRY

Otter Ferry is the secret pocket of the Argyll's Secret Coast. Long twisty roads taking you to an alcove of heaven. The tranquillity of the water, the hills on the other side, watching the sunset disappear behind them giving the sky every colour in the sky. The long stretch of low water (spit) that can be walked over halfway accross the loch stetching a mile out, or the high waters washing at your feet from the road. Otter Ferry is definitely a visit worth while, and approachable by land and sea (and sea plane / helicopter on calm days) this is a location that should not be missed.

Otter Ferry gains its name not from the sea otters that are rarely spotted but the long stretch of land that reaches more than half way accross the loch at low tide (called an Oiter). In the past there used to be a ferry crossing to Port Ann for cattle coming from Campbeltown; the easiest way for transportation.

There are free moorings and a pontoon for visitors to use as they wish although we appreciate any donations in the provided boxes for the upkeeping of the facilities.
